We live in a modern world with great intensity of modernization in nearly all aspects of our lives. However, one important product that has not been modernized for a while is the traffic light. Is it absolutely unimprovable? Definitely not! Evgeny Arinin, the designer behind the Traffic Light System, realized the deep complexity and nontrivial nature of this seemingly simple product.
The main task of the Traffic Light System was to rethink people's interaction with this essential yet complicated product. The goal was to find a harmony between utility, functionality, and aesthetics, ultimately improving people's quality of life by providing them with a safer and better driving experience.
The Traffic Light System stands out due to its sleek and functional design, made possible through the use of LED and OLED technologies. The combination of a metal base and a plastic cover, with meticulous attention to detail in their connections, creates a visually appealing and durable product.

The Traffic Light System project began in autumn 2016 and was completed in February 2017. It received the Grand-Prix of Lexus Design Awards Russia Top Choice 2017 and became a panel finalist of Lexus Design Award 2017. Additionally, it was honored as a future maker during the Global Innovator Conference in ShenZhen in autumn 2017.
Extensive research underlies the Traffic Light System design. Traffic light systems vary across different countries and even cities, lacking a clear and standardized design and function. The aim was to modernize the current system, providing drivers and pedestrians with better opportunities and a more intuitive design, ultimately enhancing safety and the overall aesthetics of cityscapes.
The main challenge faced by the designer was introducing changes to a product that people have been accustomed to for almost a century. The design had to be revolutionary yet not contradict current habits. The resulting Traffic Light System can be described as a progressive evolution of the traditional traffic light system.
Awards and Accolades: The Traffic Light System was awarded Bronze in the A' Street and City Furniture Design Award in 2018. This prestigious recognition is bestowed upon outstanding and creatively ingenious designs that authenticate experience and resourcefulness. The Traffic Light System exhibits strong technical and creative skills, contributing to quality of life improvements and making the world a better place.
